Is Poshmark Legit & Worth It?
Selling items that no longer fit, match your aesthetic, or you no longer love is a great way to make some extra cash while helping the planet at the same time! One of these sites is Poshmark. However, putting your information out there can be scary, especially when there are so many scammers out there. So, is Poshmark legit? Is Poshmark worth it? Let’s dive in!

Is Poshmark Legit?
Short answer: yes! Poshmark is very legit and is a great resource to use for both resellers and buyers. I have personally used it for years and have loved it! It gives me money to pay for bills or travel even! I’ve also purchased high-quality items for great prices.
Even though I have nothing but good reviews for Poshmark, others may feel differently. There are some scammers out there. And I’ve heard from some very successful Poshmark resellers that there is little support for sellers if an issue with an order were to arise.
Poshmark Scams
If you’ve ever used a reselling platform like Poshmark, you know that there are many possible scams you can run into. I’ve run into a few on Poshmark, and it’s incredibly frustrating! Here are five different scams to look out for on Poshmark.
Counterfeit Merchandise
Receiving a fake item was the scam that I fell into. I purchased an item from someone who had over 10,000 items! They claimed it to be from Free People, but when I received it, there wasn’t any proof that it was from the brand. No logo or anything!
Some sellers may list counterfeit or fake designer items as authentic. They often use high-quality photos and detailed descriptions to deceive buyers, exactly what the seller did with the item I bought.
So, research the brand and the seller. Ask for authentication certificates, and use Poshmark’s authentication service for luxury items. I could’ve easily avoided this scam if I read the description much more thoroughly!
Non-Delivery
A seller may accept payment but never ship the item. Fortunately, Poshmark will automatically refund you if the item hasn’t shipped within seven days. So you don’t have to worry about chasing the seller for a refund.
They could possibly send an empty package. Make sure to check the seller’s reviews before you make a purchase. Reach out to Poshmark support if this happens to you.
Return Scams
Buyers may purchase an item and then falsely claim it was not as described or arrived damaged, even if it was in good condition when shipped. This scam can lead to return requests and potential loss for you.
Make sure to contact Poshmark customer support if this happens to you! You can also chat with the buyer, and the chat will be recorded and sent to Poshmark customer service.
Unauthorized Returns
This scam is similar to the return scam, but you may receive an empty or different item than the one originally sent to the buyer. Scammers may swap out the item and then file a return, leaving the seller with a loss.
The same rules apply to the previous scam. Chat with the buyer and contact customer support. Make sure to document as much about the item as possible.
Payment Scams
Scammers may try to get buyers to make payments outside of Poshmark, like through Venmo or PayPal, to avoid fees. They may also request a trade, where you send one item, and they send another. I rarely hear anything good come from trading, so I suggest never accepting exchanges!
Poshmark provides a lot of buyer protection, so make sure you only accept payment through the platform. No protection will carry over if you do business on a different platform!
How To Avoid Poshmark Scams
I touched on this a bit, but there are quite a few ways to avoid scams! Poshmark provides excellent buyer protection, so you are safe from a lot if you work on the platform!
Make sure you:
- Check the seller’s reviews
- Only accept payments through Poshmark
- Contact the buyer through Poshmark if any issues arise
- Document any suspicious items or returns
- Report questionable activity to Poshmark
- Consider getting a P.O. box for your safety (using it for shipping and return addresses)
These scams shouldn’t stop you from buying or selling on Poshmark. I have sold over 100 items and have yet to encounter fraud from a buyer. I have also purchased a dozen items from the platform and only experienced one scam from a seller that I could’ve avoided by reading the description more thoroughly!
Reselling Sites Like Poshmark
If you’re still on the fence about Poshmark, there are many alternative sites.
You can consider:
Every platform has its own pros and cons, fees, and the types of products you can easily find for each resource. So, test out different platforms. Buy and sell on many different ones; don’t be tied down on just one.
Poshmark Fees
Poshmark has a few different fees, making it a bit difficult to understand. They take a 20% commission on every sale over $15 and a flat fee of $2.95 on every sale under $15. You can also offer shipping discounts, which will be taken from your earnings on the item.
I like that Poshmark shows your potential earnings on each item before you commit to an offer or price.
Is Poshmark Worth It?
Yes! At least it has been for me! I love buying from Poshmark, and knowing that I’m giving (the majority, at least) money directly to the seller is a great feeling. I only have great things to say about selling on Poshmark. My customers have been so friendly, and it has been a great alternate source of income for me and my family.
